Hi! My name is Jean, while I am about as much  a far cry from being an expert on people with dementia as a person could be, I am someone who has lived through helping care for a parent with dementia and a nurse who works mostly with the elderly population which usually includes some sort of  dementia. I have lived through and watched other people live through the heart break of watching someone you love suffer from the effects of dementia. I want to try to help ease the burden of others by researching and posting resources, articles, videos etc. that might help someone else have a little easier journey through this terrible hard time in their life.I hope you get something useful from this site. Whether it be resources or just to browse. I hope you will visit often. Visit my blog page to connect with people who are going thru or has finished the battle with Alzheimer disease or any other dementia, because their loved one has left this world...as is the case with me.
I started this site because of my Mom. She is the one who inspired me to try to spread the word about this dreadful disease and try to be a support system for someone who is going thru what I already have.
Being a nurse, I have worked with a lot of people who have dementia. You see them suffering, being confused, thinking the world is against them, everything given to them to eat has been poisoned...well you get the picture. You think how awful it is, you feel sorry for them, for their families who are at a loss and don't know what to do or where to turn for help. How awful it is to watch someone so close to you slowly forget you!
BUT--when it hits you at home...WOW! I had no ideal really just how much these families were hurting. Yeah, I would give them a shoulder, an ear to vent into  but you REALLY have no idea how it turns your world upside down and inside out until you experience it personally!
I hope to use this site to help others have a little easier time of it, to have a place to go to ask questions, tell their story, find resources etc.
Please let me know if I can be of assistance if nothing more than being an ear for YOU! We all need to stand together to help each other thru this hard, hard thing we must endure. If you like this site and it is helpful to you please let me know or if it isn't please let me know that also and what I can do differently.
Thank you to everyone who visits with me! God Bless you and your loved ones!
